The ideas from my digipak are based around the ideas and concepts taken from my music video, the are also based on the audience feedback which was given from my chosen audience of which they though would allow the Digipak to be symbolic and successful.
I have decided to carry out:
Black and white images of the performers
Two different performers to have different attire
Image should be a mid shot of both performers, this allows the magazine to be intense, serious and carry out a strong awe.
All text should be below the performers, important text can be written in Pink and white.
A candle somewhere on the poster, symbolic of light.
As a group, we all watched each music video and pretend the views with a choice of questions in relation to preparing for each digital pack.
The questions which that I asked where:
What colours would you associate both members of the group with?
What springs to mind when you watch the music video?
Where should the album cover be taken?
One word to describe them both ?
The digital pack needed to consist of a draft of which was done through a design sketching, I merged four sections onto an A4 piece of paper, which each individual section represented one of the following.
Taking into consideration that my music video has generally an overall theme which both actors and the location of which the music video was held a presented in relation to both characters. It is important that I stick around the overall concept and theme. This ensures that the audience can use symbolic interaction to recognise many elements relating back to the music video.
As the created Digital pack follows the colour theme of pink, black and white, I have decided to keep the magazine advert following the same colour scene. When planing the images of what to use when creating my magazine advert, I have asked the two actors who stared in the music video to set aside a day to take more pictures of which I can use for the magazine advert. Permission to film is the same place was also given to me of which will be Christ Temple Church.
The colours of which I have asked both of the girls to wear is white, I have done so as I believe using just a simple colour as white can signify many things, such as purity, peace and strength each three meanings have many relations to the brand image of the music video.
Although I have asked both characters to wear white the style of which I have chosen for them is different. Mary's Attire is to be smart, sophisticated and angelic whereas Elyon's dress code is to follow a more calm relaxed and more urban approach towards a modern youthful society.
The filing of my music did not go to plan as due to mine and the artist time schedule it was hard for us to arrange convenient bookings and also ensure that the church building was free for us to go ahead and use.
We decide to film on monday the 18th of November at the agreed location of the church, I booked out equipment from Ms Excel which consisted of a camera tripod and lights. When we reached our chosen destination the girls put on their correct attire and i set up the first floor of the church.
However unfortunately after setting up the location and having the intentions to film, the tripod was missing the shoe of which holds the camera in place, without the shoe for the tripod the footage would not stand still, luckily the church camera was available for us to use of which is imported through an SD card which I had, the filing was then able to take place successfully.
Here is an image of how I applied lip syncing to my final profession audio. The markers which are indicated in green where used to symbolise when it was needed to cut and edit filming to match the audio to make the lip syncing successful.
I also used a YouTube tutorial to give me extra support when analysing how to perfect my lip syncing from my audio. I found this video extremely helpful as it gave me extra knowledge on how to ensure that even if my lip syncing goes wrong, there are tools available to correct it.
In order to complete my music video successful and safely I must ensure that I follow correct health and safety procedures. This would ensure that all participants of my music video are not in any danger whiles filming. My filing will be held in two different locations:
Church building
Appropriate shoes to be work
Be careful when standing near landings
Do not lean over railings too much
Ensure all filming equipment is put away in a safe location
No loose wires when participants are dancing
Permission to use church building
Car
Ensure both passengers have seat belts on
When reversing ensure that the road is clear and driver is looking in all windows
Be aware of pedestrians
When at a standstill ensure handbrake is up, and gear is in neutral.
As my music video is set to be a Gospel and R&B, I would like my music video to be filmed in a church, however there will be elements which are filmed at this location however I do plan to have many shots of just a plain white background.
Location
This is a image of the location which has been chosen, my attended church which is in London Neasden. Gaining filming permission was not difficult as the owner of the church is our Priest, he gave us the keys for our chosen date and allowed us to move forward with filming.
I have decided to conduct my music video centred around both narrative and performance base, this decision arises from both the hybrid genres of R&B and Gospel. R&B music videos are often very active and often consist around having either the main performers dancing or the back up dancers performing a dance routine. After doing research into Gospel music videos is it very apparent that they often consist of a narrative based concept of explaining the duration of a life change.
The visualised difference between the verse and chorus is that during the chorus the camera only focusses on the two main characters dancing or walking through a street, however during the verse it follows a narrative construction, whereby there are two main stories which are told.
The editing is cut to the beat, and the performers dance to the fast and snappy beat therefore the audience have a feel to the sound both visually audibly.
They showcase the stars often through movement and dance, the main stars are not overall highlighted but rather are dressed and presented in the same way as the back up dancers and other people on the set. It is only because the camera often focusses on the two main characters which allows the audience to realise who the main actors are.
The overall concept is taken from the three stories which in the end could be seen as testimony's, three people who had problems had solved their problems by the end of the song. The dancing which is choreographed relates to the lyrics as when they sing "took the shackles off my feet so I can dance" all the dancers make the same movement.
Brandy & Monica ' Boy Is Mine'
This is a narrative music video of two ladies who are debating over a guy of which they claim is each of their own. The visualised difference between the chorus and the verse is that during the chorus the camera is split equally between both leading stars of which are more often than not both attempting to contact the same man. This is divided by a wall of which the camera switch's sides depending on the vocal lyrics. The editing is cut with the beat of which is slow and mellow, although the song takes more of a waiting process the editing follows both main characters and also the male figure of which is playing the man both ladies are debating over. The camera uses a 90 degree angle when switching sides.
Codes and conventions R&B The codes and conventions of R&B music often follow the same concepts, the male and female often have different ways of perceptions. Male Males are often masculine, strong and wealthy characters. They often take the stance of having many women around them in focusing on the male gaze, the women are seen mostly as a object for the wealthy man to be able to pay or show off his wealth. The man's wealth is often clearly shown through his clothing and materialistic items, such as gold chains, designer clothes and expensive cars. Female Depending on the subject of the music video, female's can be represented in either a strong sophisticated manner of a flirtatious ideal male gaze. However, females still take the stance of showing and reflecting wealth in similar ways such through jewellery and nice clothes. Gospel Gospel conventions tend to follow the same codes and conventions throughout the majority of this genres music videos. For example they most often have two approaches: 1.Having a narrative theory consisting throughout the music video, for example this can be shown through having a bad life turn out good in the future all in relation to finding and receiving God. 2.A celebration or rejoicing concept of how far each individual has come through God. The clothing which is used through Gospel music videos can again take two different approaches it can either be mature sophisticated and non boastful, or it can be a calm relaxed attire and atmosphere.
The Auteur theory is the theory that the director's film reflects the directors creativity each time a video or production is made. This draws out the individuals work should reflect their unique designs and always have reference to the directors work and reflect the directors vision.
Chris Cunningham
Chris Cunningham is a British video artist, who more often then not follows the same styles throughout the majority of his produced music videos. Two well known music videos of Chris Cunningham's is Madonna 'frozen' and Apex Twins ' come to daddy' . This explores many of Cunningham's video techniques.
The techniques which are commonly used to establish the Auteur theory of Chris Cunningham are:
Dark gloomy colours
Often Grey black and white
Surreal events which have no direct correlation between the music and lyrics
Surreal characters
Deserted unusual areas of which the music video's are filmed.
Hype Williams
Hype Williams is an American music and film director, Williams has worked with stars such as Mary J Blige, User, R Kelly and Kayne West. Two of his common music video's have been analysed of which is Kayne West ft Jamie Foxx ' Gold Digger' and LL Cool J ft Jennifer Lopez ' Control Myself'.
The techniques which are commonly used to establish the Auteur theory of Hype Williams are:
Performance based music video's tend to often record the artist/ artists preforming in a day to day setting for example in a studio, preforming live or even performing in a studio. An example of this is Bruno Mars ' Treasure'.
Narrative Based Narrative based music video's often tell a story throughout the video of which has direct correlation between the lyrics and the video. An example of this is Usher ft Alicia Keys' My Boo'.
Concept Based
This is the opposite of narrative based music videos, of which the music video has no direct link or correlation to the song. An example of this is Naughty Boy 'la, la, la'
In the 50's there where no music video's however many people where in music films. They became very attached to many scenes of which to their preference of musical films where, and some may say this made the experience more memorable.
Men prefer blonds-" diamonds are a girls best friend"
1960's
In the 1960s pop rock'n'roll, punk begun to emerge. Popular music groups which carried out the audiences requirements such as the Beatles were a great success as they followed out the music fan base. The British invasion took plan in American music. There was a high demand of sending all music videos and bands across the world as the popularity grew.
1970
The break up of the Beatles took place , The 70's created a trend of relaxing music as well as dance music , Disco movement was the definition of the 1970s although this faze did not last very long Top of the Pops became the first and greatest music show, all bands and artists wanted to be on this show following the same genre.
1980
The death of John Lennon at the end of this year gave him his first chart chopper, Michael Jackson took part in a pepsi advert which helped him launch his thriller album, MTV base also launched as a music video channel. Billie Jean was a number one hit selling thousands of copies.
1990
Bugs bunny on broadway was lunched and was extremely popular, many bands started to launch with their own identities. Such as boy band B12
I firstly begun to search for a un signed by using a website called ' unsigned mp3' of which had many artists of many different genres who are currently unsigned. My main search mainly consisted off r&b unsigned artists, I then managed to find one of which I really liked and along with this website it gave us as the audience a chance to email each artist. This was the email which I sent .
Hi,
My name is Joanna and I am currently studying for a media A level in London- I really like your music and am emailing to ask to use your track as part of my course in which I will need to make a music video. I attend Queen Elizabeth's Girls' school in Barnet and cover the OCR specification (if you wanted to check). Your music would only be used for educational purposes and not shared at all. I would really appreciate if you could give me permission to use your track 'Just When' and help me complete the course using a song I love. Please let me know either way as soon as you can and good luck in your career.
Thank you for your time
Joanna
However I was never given a reply back, in regards to this I then noticed that it may be difficult to email an unsigned artist with a high request of a quick response. So I decided to think about if I knew any family or friends who had a track which had been recorded and of course who where currently unsigned. I then remembered to very close friends of mine who had created a Gospel/r&b rap song and decided to take it upon myself to contact them. Their response was very quick and they gave me the permission to use their song.
Although I found a song which was so close to home and also a track I very much like, there are a few things of which I found difficult about my overall search. These where things such as deciding which genre I would have like to work around. I found this an obstacle because as well as trying to find a good song to use I also had to think about what resources I had available to use for the video, who id have in the video and also the location and settings of the video. These where always the main focus around each
I edited this short film on final cut express for AS media studies. All the titles where used through wire frame this made sure that the correct title was shown at the correct time. I then used title safe to ensure that the titles was positioned correctly and did not fall off the page.
[PAUSE]
Here we can see the title' Directed by Joanna Sampaney' which is placed over the figure of a lady who is in an elevator. The title slowly fades away as she exists.
This music which was used through my short film where choosen from garage band, the first 32 seconds of the film uses a slow calm melody then changes to a more up beat tempo.
There is an over view of a park of which the following title fades in and slowly fades out. The lady's shoes are shown walking through a corridor this sound is used to make a non digetic sound as she walks away.
We are now shown the last three titles of which are the actors names.
As the boy runs through the park we are taken to a stair case of which the title of the film is shown. ' The Lost Boy' the audience is only shown a figure walking up the stair case of which only his/her trousers and bag is shown.
I have decided to work alone, and the genre which I have decided to aim at was a children's film, this allows the target audience to be young children who are above the age of 6 years old. I plan to make my film about a young boy who against his will is told that he would be moving to a new country to start off a new life however he feels as if his current life will completely be forgotten about. The film will consist of three characters the mum, younger brother, and the 8 year old boy. There are three different places of which the film opening will cover the house, the block of flats, and an outdoor scene going through a park.
Planning permission was not essential when filming as the first scene was done at a family friends house and the walk through the corridor did not expose any other persons identity of their property. The scene which takes place outside is in an open plan community, therefore as the boy would only be running through it, it was not essential to get planning permission for that scene.
The representative of the film was for young children of the age of 6-11, therefore the film would consist of content and dialog of which its target audience is able to understand and relate to, through doing this it would make the film's purpose more clearer. Which in this example would be never to run away from home even when the going gets tuff.
The main character of the film is a young boy who goes by the name of Luke, Luke is a very bright friendly and welcoming boy however as like most children feels as if his point of say never gets across. Luke has a younger brother called Sammy and despite having an age gap Luke tends to always care and look after his little brother and in fact this is the reason why Luke returns home from being astray. The other two characters who are shown in the opening are Luke's mother Rachael and little brother Sammy, all three of them are extremely close. However as a mother all of Rachael's intentions are to look after both of her boys through protection love and care.
The titles which would be included in the blog would be:
"SMT production"
"Written By"
"Directed By"
"Starring ...."
" Presents"
" The lost boy.."

This is a film about a young boy who is adopted through a caring couple and is able to change his life through this. However he cannot adapt his previous lifestyle to his changed new one. The first tittle which is presented is Disney Production, this allows the audience to know that this is a Disney production which is most likely to be a children's genre of film. The first opening scene goes over a town with soft calm music with this there is a camera shot which is an over view shot of the trees. There is then two people looking into a window however titles beginning to appear "filmed by" the audience are then made aware that this male and female are most likely a couple as they hold hands. The film then jumps to a lady flicking through a piece of paper in an office A close up shot of adoption service logo (gives you an inside as to what the couple are there for). There is then a mid two shot of the couple. The couple start talking about how they have been unable to have a baby for the past year. It then goes into a flash back of what as happened within the past year through all of this titles are still accruing as the camera has an over view of town.
This film opening starts of with a plain black background with 20th century fox which is a well known filming production. Then the film opening begins to cover production and cast names, the first title which is shown is ' A John Hughes production' this allows the audience to be aware that the film which is about to be presented is of a John Hughes collection of which the audience most likely has an insight as to what type of films this production company actually present. The next few titles are of cast names however on the third title a moon starts to appear from the left hand side corner, it slowly fades and becomes a long distance shot. Once this image of a house on a black plain background appears the titles HOME ALONe appear however the home appears from the left hand side of the house and the alone appears on the right hand side of the house. The Alone is marked with a small e this is significant as it catches the audience's eye and leaves them on a climax as to why. At this stage the moon which once appeared fades away and both the HOME and ALONe fades out the same way as the audience first saw it. Throughout this a black background is still consistent. The final title of which we are shown is Music By... the house image is now rather small and still in the background. The music which is used for the first 60 seconds is a soft orchester with a dominating piano. The camera then skips to a long shot of which it is placed on the top of a wealthy looking house at the top of the staircase, this allows the audience to understand what is going on the house of which rather busy a chaotic. At the bottom of the staircase are children running around and a police man standing in the middle of them looking rather confused as to what is going on.

The kill bill trailer opens with heavy panting and a close up of a lady's face which is badly bruised. She is panting in fear for the reason that the audience may classify as danger. There are many open wounds which however the blood which is on her face is dry and static. The audience then begging to hear a heavy footsteps of which then the camera does a mid close tracking shot of a woman/mans boot walking presumably towards the lady.
The camera goes back onto the lady of which you then begin to see the fear the remains in her face however a male voice begins to talk over the panting. Not only is the gentlemen's voice blocking out the sound of her fear however with the way the camera is angled it gives the affect the he is completed over powering her. This can be seem as a stereotypical scene as the man is over powering the woman, she is completed surrounded in fear and cannot escape.
When the dialogue begins the unknown man asks the lady a question, and generally waits for the lady's reply however in the instance she is too scared to reply. A hand then appears and he starts to wipe her the sweat tears and blood from her face, he strokes her face and points his finger in her face. Again this shows the audience that he is still being controlling and rather than for him to feel remorse for hurting this lady it could be shown that he has no care. Through this the lady closes her eyes she slowly brings her head up and the audience are then seen a different look into her eyes. We as the audience begin to realise she is about to say her first piece of dialogue. Of which she straightens her head and says" Will, it's your baby". This gives the audience extra knowledge to the both of the characters. One of which shows that the unseen man goes by the name of 'Will' and the second that these two people at some point have had an intimate relationship. Then suddenly a gun shot is let off and the scene of the woman turns into a blank black image of which the conversation of the woman's dialogue and the gun shot happen rapidly after each other.
