Advert sketches

Magazine ideas and sketches

Below is a sketch of a few ideas that I have in relation to my magazine advert, through doing sketch drafts I have decided to follow through the idea of having a lit candle in my magazine advert not only is this humble and symbolic it also represents the idea of having a small glow to any element.

Conventions of the magazine advert

1. What is a magazine advert and what's its function?

A magazine advert is a piece of advertisement of which is dedicated to producing a marketing source to enable its target audience to be drawn in, in order to be more likely to either no more about the product which is being sold or even simply to help promote the product.

What do we usually find on advert? Does it diff between genres of music?

R&B and Hip Hop

The image of the artist is more than often a close up showing facial expressions, the font colours often work against the colours of the image allowing all detailed information to stand out, The main artist name is large to ensure the audience knows who the magazine is about and does not miss her or her name. Genre characteristics are often shown through the poster, for example wealth may be reflected through a big symbolic piece of Jewellery.

Pop

The artist or artists are often in brightly coloured clothes, this often reflects a summer/ spring theme.
They are often happy and smiley which could then reflect togetherness and them joint as one.
The title of the band/artist is clearly identified, along with the album release dates reviews and stars.

Review of Magazine with the same Genre

I have chosen Mary Mary's album cover ' Go Get It!' in relation to my music video. Mary Mary are two Gospel singers, in which I have chosen this in relation to my artist as they are both two Gospel female artists.

What does this album cover signify?

The two artists are equally placed opposite each other both in black and gold attire, there is a road behind placed in the middle of them. This may signify the idea of a long journey however they are both beside each other to make it, in relation to the album name 'GO GET IT, the road fades out and the image is only left with a distant view. This may leave the audience questioning what they are going to get and what lies behind the road that we can see. The colours which are used for the font are centred around gold and red, the red may be to symbolise troubles or danger however the gold can be represented as strength, and triumph, the two correspond each other in which the audience can interpret as they are both looking at a straight road however along the way they may be encountered with challenges the stars surrounding them gives hope and determination that they will make the journey they want to.

Reflection of Digipak

After completing my digipak, there are many key concepts of which consisting around the making of each for page of the digipak .

Front cover

The front cover uses an image which was taken for the digipak it is of both performers on a plain white clear background. Each of the performers are both in white attire and performer 1( Elyon) is facing the camera whereas performer 2 (Mary) is looking directly towards Elyon. The album name is printed in between both of the performers of which is 'Faith'

CD Case
The CD cover uses again an image of both of the performers however the are both looking happy cheerful and strong, again in black ad white

Lyric Board and Lyric Page

The lyric board uses two separate images of the performers whereas the other two images are images which were taken together as one. The lyric board images are both set outdoors in the open, in an autumn park. The lyric page uses just a simple candle light on a black background.

Overall when reflecting on the Digipak having the Photoshop tutorial was beneficially as it allowed me to get on without having any struggles surrounding how to use important tools. Having the sketches was also beneficial as it gave me a base plan to focus my ideas around.
